I’ve had this idea of a satire PSA about freelance and independent filmmaking in my head for a while. It started out with the scene of an editor prostituting himself out on a street corner. That whole idea of this guy selling his editing services like the ladies of the night was funny to me. So then I thought, what are some other unorthodox ways filmmakers could go about trying to generate business and make extra money. So with that, I created Freelance Filmmaking PSA. My tribute video to anyone trying to make a living doing freelance video. Its a grind and I’ve seen many friends struggle and succeed. I do freelance work on the side of my 40 hour a week job. I’m not ready to dive in head first. Check out the video on my portfolio page.
Also check out a behind the scenes of the filming https://vimeo.com/50806705. This video was put together by Justin Adkinson who set up a couple of Go Pros around each set as we filmed.
Camera: Canon 7D
Lenses: Zeiss 50 mm, Tokina 11-16mm, Zeiss 28 mm
Glide Cam HD 4000
Edited in Adobe Premiere, color graded in Adobe After Effects using Colorista 2 and Denoiser 2
My drawings look like a kindergartener did them, but I enjoy and believe in drawing them out. I tried using storyboard software once, but the process didn’t really work for me.
Here are some photos from the filming.
